Auld Lang Syne - 2012
It’s 2012! The start of a new year and one that would undoubtedly be the most significant in our lives up to now. We are 13 days away from holding our little hero, Evan. Even after witnessing 8 and a half months of the miracle of pregnancy I still can’t believe that I will be holding my son in a little under two weeks time. It’s something that is way too big for my ordinary mind to fathom. It’s amazing how one thing can so easily surpass everything that we have accomplished in our entire lives thus far.
Evan’s birth will most definitely be overshadowing everything else for 2012, however, there are still some other aspects that we are looking forward to. How great is it that there’ll be another heartbeat in the family to share these experiences with!
On top of our secondary list must be Sani2C. After spending a couple of years on the waiting list we’ve eventually gotten in after the addition of a third event; the Sani2C Trail. In the past there were only two occurrences of this race, the Sani2C Race and the Sani2C Adventure, starting a day apart. Due to the massive demand to get into what is by many regarded as the best supported stage race in the world, 2011 saw the addition of the Sani2C Trail, starting a day before the Sani2C Adventure. The race traverses the wild and breathtaking KZN landscape and finishes in Scottburgh, 3 days and 260km after the starting gun sounded in Underberg. This promises to be some of the best riding I’ve ever done. We’re also fortunate enough to have spectator points along the route where Adel, Evan and Zelda can join in this experience.
2012 is a massive year for us and one where we’ll undoubtedly have to adjust, learn and accommodate whilst keeping things as normal as possible... even though normal will probably have a completely different meaning by the end of the month. With less than two weeks to go we can barely contain our excitement and can’t wait for this new chapter in our lives to begin. 2012 will forever be earmarked as the start of a new era.
